EICR Questions
Q
How long does an EICR take?
Most EICRs take 1-3 hours depending on property size. A 2-bed flat is usually done in under 90 minutes. Larger properties or those with multiple consumer units take longer.
Q
How often do I need an EICR?
Landlords: Every 5 years or at change of tenancy (whichever is sooner).
Homeowners: Recommended every 10 years, or when buying/selling.
Q
What if my property fails the EICR?
We'll explain exactly what needs fixing and provide a fixed-price quote for the remedial work. Most faults can be fixed the same day, dangerous faults get emergency priority. Once complete, we issue a satisfactory certificate.
Q
Do I need to be home during the inspection?
Someone needs to provide access and be available to turn off appliances if needed. Many landlords give us keys or arrange access through tenants.
Q
What's the difference between C1, C2, and C3?
C1: Danger present. immediate action required. Call our emergency line.
C2: Potentially dangerous. urgent attention needed.
C3: Improvement recommended but not mandatory. Only C1 and C2 cause a fail.
Q
What's the difference between EICR and EIC?
EICR tests existing electrical installations (periodic inspection). EIC certifies new electrical work. Both are different documents for different purposes
What is an EICR?
An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a detailed inspection of your property's electrical systems. Think of it as an MOT for your electrics.
Our NICEIC qualified electricians check your wiring, fuse box, sockets, lighting, and circuits to make sure everything is safe and meets current IET wiring regulations.
