If there is already an electric shower on the wall, the cable behind it is almost certainly 6mm. That takes anything up to 8.5kW, so the new unit goes straight onto the feed that is already there. No chasing walls, no new circuit.
You want 9.5kW or 10.5kW
A 6mm cable will not carry it safely, so we run a new 10mm from your fuse box to the shower. That is the honest answer people rarely get told before they have already bought the unit. We do the cable and the shower on the same visit.
There is no electric shower at all
No shower on the wall means no circuit behind it either. That is the full job: a new way in the fuse box, the cable run through to the bathroom, an isolator and the cold feed plumbed in, with the certificate on the day.
Not sure which cable you have? Almost nobody is. You cannot tell by looking at the shower, and guessing wrong means buying a unit that cannot be fitted. We check it free when we come to quote, and we tell you before you order anything. Fitting a shower above its cable rating is not allowed under BS 7671 and we will not do it.
