Liverpool Property Note
Prices are based on standard Liverpool properties. Victorian terraces in Anfield and Wavertree may vary. So may Georgian townhouses in the city centre. So may Edwardian semis in Mossley Hill. Unusual layouts, restricted access or extra circuits are priced at survey. All pricing is confirmed at your free site visit.
Built to Pass Its Next Inspection
We carry out EICRs across Liverpool. That means we open up rewires years after they were done. We see what lasts and what does not. Cable that was pulled too tight. Connections that were rushed. So we build yours to still pass when someone inspects it in ten years. Every rewire carries a full NICEIC certificate.
How do you take payment?
Fifty per cent deposit. Fifty per cent on completion. We ask for the deposit just before we start, not months ahead. Nobody should be holding your money while you wait.
Prices last reviewed July 2026. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing at the free survey.
What Our Customers Say
What Liverpool homeowners say about our rewiring work
Had our 1930s terrace in Wavertree fully rewired by Ideal Electrical. Three bedrooms, took exactly 4 days as quoted. They planned every socket position with us beforehand, provided temporary power each evening so we could manage throughout, and left the house clean and tidy each day. The final price was exactly what was quoted at the free survey. NICEIC certificate arrived same day as completion. Would not hesitate to recommend to any Liverpool homeowner.
Full rewire on our 3-bed semi in Mossley Hill. We had been quoted over £7,000 by two national companies. Ideal Electrical did the exact same job for £4,500 fixed price. Same NICEIC certification, same quality cable, brand new consumer unit included. The fixed price meant no surprises on the invoice and the team were professional throughout. Brilliant value and a service I would happily recommend.
Thomas and the lads, Josh, Dave and Ryan, completed a full rewire of our new Formby home. Conscientious from start to finish. Attention to detail and customer service I honestly have not seen from other trades in thirty years of owning houses. It felt like having friends over for the week rather than a crew on site. Finished ahead of schedule, cleaned up after themselves every single day. Cannot recommend highly enough. Top lads.
Full Rewire or Partial Rewiring: Which Do You Need?
Most Liverpool homeowners don't know the difference. Here is a plain English explanation of both options.
Everything Replaced
All wiring, sockets, switches, light fittings and the consumer unit are replaced. That is the whole property. Typically 2 to 5 days depending on size.
- Best for properties over 30 years old
- Best when EICR returns multiple failures
- Best for renovation or extension projects
- Best when selling or buying a property
- Covers you for the next 25 years
Problem Circuits Only
Only the circuits that have failed or been condemned on an EICR are replaced. The rest of the wiring is left in place. Typically takes 1 to 2 days.
- Best when EICR returns one or two failures
- Best when budget is constrained short term
- Best when only part of the wiring is old
- Cheaper upfront but may need completing later
- Not suitable if rubber wiring is present
Can a rewire be done in stages?
Usually we do it in one hit. Some people split it instead. First fix, then the plasterer comes in, then we return for second fix. That works, but be clear on the gap. Between those visits there is no power in the house. Only the temporary socket we hook up at the mains.
Do I Actually Need a Rewire?
Answer 4 quick questions and we will give you our honest assessment. No email required, no hidden upsell.
How old is your property?
What does your fuse box look like?
Are any of these happening?
Select all that apply. Tick "none" if none apply to you.
What is your situation?
Most Liverpool houses over 25 years old need rewiring. Electrical Safety First advise that wiring over 25 years old should be inspected by a qualified electrician. You can also read our full guide on how to tell if your Liverpool house needs rewiring, or book a free electrical safety inspection.
How a House Rewire Works: First Fix to Certificate
Every Liverpool house rewire follows the same three-stage process. Here is exactly what happens and when.
Survey and Planning
We walk through every room with you before any work starts. We agree socket positions and lighting layouts. We agree appliance locations. We plan for future needs too, like an EV charger or a shower circuit. You have full input on where everything goes.
Before work starts. Free.First Fix
Old wiring is removed. New cables are installed through floors, walls and ceilings. Back boxes for sockets and switches are fitted. Floorboards are lifted where needed and replaced each evening. This is the most disruptive stage, usually 2 to 3 days for a standard Liverpool terrace.
Days 1 to 3. No power during the daySecond Fix and Certificate
Sockets, switches, light fittings and the new consumer unit are all fitted and connected. All circuits are fully tested to BS 7671 standard. The NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificate is issued on the final day.
Final 1 to 2 days. Certificate issued same dayHouse Rewire Disruption: The Honest Truth
Every house rewire causes disruption. Here is exactly what to expect, so there are no surprises. For a full timeline breakdown, see our guide on how long a house rewire takes.
During Working Hours
- No mains power during working hours 8am to 6pm
- Floorboards selectively lifted where needed
- Walls chased for new cable routes
- Dust even with extraction running
- One room out of action at a time
- Furniture moved and replaced each evening
Temporary Power Provided
- We hook up temporary socket supplies each evening
- Fridge and boiler kept running via extension leads
- Hot water available throughout the rewire
- Lamps, phone and laptop charging all achievable
- Not full power but enough to live reasonably
- Full mains power only restored on completion day
Our Honest Advice
- Stay with family if you can manage 3 to 5 days
- Expect takeaways. Cooking properly is difficult
- Hotels cost more than the disruption is worth
- Empty properties speed the job up significantly
- Kids and pets make the working days harder
- Plan your kitchen sockets carefully before we start
Do you make good the walls?
No. We are electricians, not plasterers. We cut the chases and run the cable. After that you need a plasterer to fill and skim. Most people line one up for the week after we finish. Budget for it when you plan the job.
Can a House Really Be Rewired in One Day?
You will see this advertised across Liverpool. Here is what it actually takes, and what gets left behind.
What Gets Rushed
A chase is the channel cut into your wall for cable. Cut it fast and the wall takes a beating. Your plaster pays for that later. Beds, wardrobes and sofas get shifted at speed for access. Cables get pulled through the joists in bunches. That nicks the insulation. The floorboards go back down on top, so you never see it. Every connection is made against the clock. That is where rewires fail.
Nobody Holds the Whole Picture
To finish in a day you need a lot of people at once. Nobody follows a circuit from start to finish. So when a fault appears in two years, there is no record of how it was run. Design work suffers too. Spotlight layouts need measuring out. So do outside sockets, floodlights and EV chargers.
What You Actually See
At the end of the day the lights come on. The sockets work. Everything looks finished. That is the whole problem. You cannot see the cable under the floor. You cannot see inside the connections. Those only show up years later, when someone opens it back up.
A three bed takes us three to four days. That is how long it takes to do properly.
What Our Home Rewiring Services Include
No hidden extras. No surprise charges on completion day. Every rewire we quote includes all of this as standard.
All cables replaced with modern PVC throughout the entire property
18th Edition compliant with full RCD protection and surge device
All new white plastic throughout every room in the property
Ceiling rose pendants throughout all rooms and the landing
Mains-powered, interconnected smoke alarms throughout
Extractor fan with isolator switch included at no extra charge
Protects all electronics from voltage spikes on the network
Full electrical installation certificate issued on completion day
Your 8 New Electrical Circuits
Every circuit designed and installed to 18th Edition BS 7671 standards. All rewires are notified to building control under Part P of the Building Regulations. We are a NICEIC registered contractor, so we self-certify. You do not need to make a separate building control application.
How many sockets should each room have?
Our standard specification gives every bedroom three double sockets. Most people add more once we walk the house together. Think about where the bed goes. Where the telly goes. Whether anyone works in there.
Kitchen Planning Before Your Rewire
We have done over 200 rewires across Liverpool. One regret comes up more than any other. People did not plan their kitchen sockets. Here is what to think about before we start.
Keeping Your Existing Kitchen?
- Do you have enough sockets above the worktop?
- Is there a USB charging socket for phones and tablets?
- Space for kettle, toaster and coffee machine without sharing a socket?
- Would you prefer spotlights instead of a single pendant?
Isolation switching for individual appliances and under-cabinet lighting. Both are simple to add during the rewire and expensive to add afterwards.
Planning a New Kitchen?
- Where will the cooker be positioned?
- Where does the fridge-freezer go?
- Island? You will need floor sockets.
- Induction hob? Needs its own dedicated isolation switch.
We walk every room with you before a single cable is run. We discuss socket positions, lighting and appliance layouts. Bring kitchen plans or photos and we will advise on placement.

A Rewired Liverpool Home Sells Faster and for More
Selling, buying or renovating? Here is why a rewire is almost always worth it.
Old Wiring Costs You at Sale
Buyers increasingly request an electrical inspection before exchange of contracts. If your property fails, solicitors and buyers use the result to renegotiate the price. A failed EICR gives buyers leverage. They can knock £3,000 to £8,000 off the offer. That is often more than the rewire costs. A rewired home with a fresh NICEIC certificate removes that argument. Citizens Advice outlines landlord and homeowner electrical obligations in full.
Request an EICR Before You Complete
Buying a Liverpool property built before 1990? Ask the seller for an EICR. If they cannot provide one, factor a rewire into your offer. The RICS home survey guidance recommends electrical inspection as part of any pre-purchase survey. We offer free surveys for buyers across all Liverpool postcodes.
Common Questions
Straight answers to what Liverpool homeowners ask most about house rewiring.
TIMELINEHow long does it take to rewire a house in Liverpool?
A 2-bedroom house takes 2 to 3 days. A 3-bedroom house takes 3 to 4 days. A 4-bedroom house takes 4 to 5 days. Most clients remain in their property throughout. We work during standard hours and provide temporary power each evening for essentials. Read our full guide on how long a house rewire takes in Liverpool.
ASSESSMENTHow do I know if my property needs rewiring?
Properties over 25 years old should be checked. Look for a fuse box with pull-out fuses rather than modern breakers. Sockets on skirting boards. Circuits that trip often. Rubber-insulated wiring. Or simply not enough sockets. Read our full guide on how to tell if your Liverpool house needs rewiring. Book a free survey and we will assess your property honestly with no obligation to proceed.
COMPAREWhat is the difference between a full and partial rewire?
A full rewire replaces everything. All wiring, sockets, switches, light fittings and the consumer unit. A partial rewire replaces only the circuits that failed or were condemned on an EICR. Partial costs less upfront. It may need completing later. We advise which is right at the free survey.
DISRUPTIONHow messy is a house rewire?
There will be disruption. Floorboards get lifted. Walls get chased for cable. There is no power during working hours. We use dust sheets throughout. We hoover daily and clear rubbish each evening. Most people find it easier to stay with family for a few days.
LIVINGCan I stay in my home during the rewire?
You can, but most people do not. There is no mains power from 8am to 6pm. Each evening we hook up a temporary socket you can run extension leads from. That covers the fridge, freezer and a kettle. It is not normal living. Cooking properly is difficult, so expect takeaways. If you can stay with family for three or four days it is much easier, and an empty house lets us work faster.
INCLUDEDDoes a rewire include a new fuse box?
Yes, always. An 18th Edition consumer unit is included in every rewire. RCD and surge protection come as standard. There is no extra charge. The old fuse box is removed and replaced. All consumer unit replacements must be notified under Part P of the Building Regulations. We are NICEIC registered, so we handle that. It costs you nothing and takes no effort.
VALUEIs it worth rewiring before selling your house?
Almost always yes. Buyers increasingly request an EICR before completing. Old wiring frequently fails. A failed EICR lets them cut their offer. Often by more than the rewire would have cost. A rewired house with a fresh certificate sells faster. We offer free surveys for homeowners who are selling. Read more about house rewire costs in Liverpool.
PREPDo I need to empty my house before you start?
No, you don't. We work around furniture and belongings. Wardrobes and beds get moved a few feet from the wall each morning. We put them back in the evening. Everything is covered with dust sheets. We hoover at the end of each day. We only ask you to move fragile ornaments and valuables. Anything on the floor that blocks access should go too. An empty house does let us work faster. If you are between tenants or have just bought the place, book the rewire before you move in.
WARRANTYWhat warranty do I get on the rewire?
Every rewire comes with a workmanship warranty backed by our NICEIC registration. The materials carry their own manufacturer warranties. Prysmian cable is typically 25 years or more. MK, BG and Fusebox accessories are two to five years. The NICEIC certificate issued on completion is your proof of compliance. Mortgage lenders, insurers and Liverpool City Council Building Control all accept it. If anything goes wrong, call us and we will come back.
HOUSEHOLDCan you work around pets, kids or a home office?
Yes, but it is easier if they are out during working hours. There are cables on the floor. Power drills running. Rooms sealed off. Those are hazards with pets or small children about. If you work from home, tell us. We can rewire your office last. That way you keep power and internet for most of the job. Tell us your situation at the free survey and we will plan the sequence around it.
AREASDo you rewire houses outside Liverpool?
Yes. We cover every Liverpool postcode. We also work across Merseyside and Cheshire. We have dedicated pages with local pricing for rewiring on the Wirral, St Helens, Warrington and Formby. Base prices are the same wherever you are. If you are outside those areas, ring us and we will tell you straight whether we cover you.
